Hematologic Malignancies Transdisciplinary Cancer Team

The goal of the Hematologic Malignancies Transdisciplinary Cancer Team is to bring expertise from different disciplines in basic and clinical research to advance our understanding of hematologic malignancies including leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma and to translate that information to clinical trials to improve patient care in South Carolina.

The team consists of members with expertise in basic biology, oncology, pathology, surgery, population science, pharmacology, engineering, and informatics and biostatistics.

Dr. Brian Hess earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Loyola University of Chicago. He furthered his training by completing a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Washington University. Dr. Hess is an associate professor at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. His areas of interest include lymphoma and bone marrow transplant.

Focus: Immune system in disease and treatment of disease. Specifically, we are interested in the role played by T cells and in developing ways to manipulate adaptive immunity, using engineered T cells as tools for therapy and for discovery.
