Education & Training Programs

Hollings supports the education and training of future cancer researchers with several programs for graduate students through early-career faculty.

Training the Next Generation

The seeds of the transformational cancer research that will happen in the decades to come are being planted now, through mentorship and structured training opportunities at academic institutions like MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.

Hollings offers several educational programs; each aimed at researchers at different career levels. Programs for graduate students introduce them to the fundamentals of cancer research. Post-doctoral fellowships strengthen researchers’ work and prepare them for faculty or industry positions. The clinical scholar program was developed especially for M.D.s or M.D/Ph.D.s to advance clinical research.

We want students to come away from their time here with a deeper understanding of how research translates into real-world impact.

Executive Leadership Academy for Cancer Centers

Working in a leadership role at a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center comes with unique responsibilities and expectations – most of which must be learned on the job.

In partnership with VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center in Richmond, Virginia, Hollings developed the Executive Leadership Academy for Cancer Centers (ELACC) to train up-and-coming research leaders on key aspects of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), the mechanism by which the National Cancer Institute evaluates cancer centers.
