Timeline

  • Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2024.
  • Letters of award will be sent no later than April 15, 2024.
  • Funding will commence on July 1, 2024.

Application Guidelines

  • Applications should be submitted online no later than 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2024.
  • Please use standard 11-point Arial font and half-inch margins throughout the application. Text should be single-spaced throughout. Pages should be consecutively numbered. Page 1 begins after the face page.
  • All documents other than the face page should be rolled into a single PDF and uploaded as part of the electronic submission. PDF should follow the order of the Application Checklist.
  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult a biostatistician in the Hollings Cancer Center Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) when developing the research design and methods of their proposals. For assistance, consult Hollings BSR biostatisticians (Dr. Betsy Hill, BSR: hille@musc.edu) or complete the Biostatistics Resource Request form

Application Checklist

  • Face Page: Complete through online application portal.
  • Personal Statement (1-page limit): In one or two paragraphs, describe your academic goals and proposed research as a Clinical Scholar; how you will lead in your specific discipline of oncology; and your approach for developing a cancer focused team, team science and projects that will help Hollings build a national reputation as a leader in your specific clinical/research discipline.
  • Research Proposal 
    • Project Title
    • Project Summary (1-page limit): Abstract: Provide an executive summary that includes identification of the problem/challenge, overall goal, approach, and significance. Impact/Innovation: How will this project impact cancer research and/or clinical care in South Carolina?
    • Project Description (3-page limit): Suggested headings include:
      • Career Development Plan
      • Clinical metrics table including applicant’s current RVU metrics; clinical trial participation; and number of patient accruals to therapeutic/interventional and non-therapeutic clinical trials
      • Specific Aims
      • Background and Significance
      • Preliminary Data/Investigations
      • Experimental Design and Methods
      • Timeline of project completion and career plan
