Sisterly bond: Three Engeviks having fun collaborating, studying the gut

Growing up in a rural area in a time before smartphones, the three Engevik girls were each other’s best playmates. As they got older and pursued degrees and careers in research, their bond remained strong.

Now, all three are back together at MUSC as assistant professors. The sisters have chosen different lines of gastrointestinal research and collaborate on how their findings can be applied to cancer.

Obviously, I’m at high risk for certain cancers, but I would rather be proactive and do the screenings. That way, if I do get cancer, I’m going to find out early rather than find out when I’m sick.
