Prostate Cancer Survivors' Strength Camp

The MUSC Wellness Center Prostate Cancer Survivors' Strength Camp is a comprehensive 10-week wellness program for prostate cancer survivors that provides support for overall fitness and well-being. The program runs three times a year and is sponsored by MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, making it free for qualified participants. Strength Camp is a group-based program that meets twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m) for 90-minute sessions that incorporate educational lectures and group exercise classes. This program can support up to 12 survivors each session.

The primary focus of this program is to build physical strength and aerobic stamina while incorporating a support system that allows you to build confidence and enhance your sense of self.

Activities and Classes

The Prostate Cancer Survivors' Strength Camp includes:

  • Membership to the MUSC Wellness Center throughout the duration of the program
  • Pre/post functional movement assessments
  • Pre/post body composition testing
  • One-on-one exercise programming with continuous communication from fitness and health professionals
  • In-person group fitness training focused on:
    • Core strength
    • Overall muscular strength and endurance
    • Cardiovascular health and aerobic endurance
    • Flexibility and range of motion
  •  Education sessions including:
    • Nutrition education
    • Breathwork seminar
    • Pelvic floor strengthening workshop with pelvic floor PT
    • Occupational therapy guidance
  • Continued support from community and clinical staff
