Giving: Frequently Asked Questions

Why does MUSC Hollings Cancer Center need private support?

The Medical University of South Carolina receives less than 6% of its operating budget from the state, and national research funding is increasingly competitive. Private philanthropy is critical to our ability to continue to serve as the state’s premier resource for cancer research and treatment.

Private gifts enhance every aspect of Hollings by allowing us to:

  • Recruit the most talented and compassionate physicians, scientists, and caregivers.
  • Build the most advanced facilities.
  • Discover new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.
  • Deliver the most advanced treatment options to our patients.
  • Reach patients in need throughout the entire state.
  • Provide our patients with the most comprehensive range of services available.
  • Support ongoing cancer research.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Contributions to the Hollings Cancer Center are accepted through the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation. The Medical University of South Carolina Foundation is a 501c(3) organization, contributions to which are tax-deductible.

The Federal Tax Identification Number is 57-6028985.
