Support Groups

Often the greatest comfort can be found in community – talking with others who are going through a similar situation. MUSC Hollings Cancer Center keeps an updated list of opportunities available for connecting with others. Meeting times and locations are subject to change – please contact the support group directly to confirm these details. 

Hollings Breast Cancer Support Group

Join us online for a monthly support group moderated by MUSC Hollings Cancer Center providers with expertise in the psychological experience of people with cancer. You can participate however you feel most comfortable: video on, video off, or call in. All options are available.

  • Connect with other individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Share your experience in a private, convenient and comfortable setting.
  • Brainstorm ideas on ways to manage the many challenges of cancer.
  • Discuss topics and ideas that are relevant to individuals with breast cancer, including recent diagnosis, current treatment and survivorship.

Survivors' Fit Club

MUSC Hollings Cancer Center offers a 10-week Survivors' Fit Club for breast cancer survivors. This club focuses on improved fitness, self-esteem and quality of life factors catered specifically to cancer survivors.

Hollings Head and Neck Cancer Support Group

Meet with other head and neck cancer patients and caregivers in a supportive environment. This group meets in a hybrid format; you may join online or in person. 

  • Hear from a different specialist each month with expertise in various aspects of head and neck cancer, including physical therapy, behavioral health and more. 
  • Connect with other patients facing similar challenges.

CanCare

CanCare is a nonprofit cancer support service with a mission to improve the quality of life for cancer survivors and their families. CanCare consists of a network of trained volunteers, including survivors, family members of survivors and medical professionals who provide emotional support, information and cancer-related resources.

Lonon Foundation

The Lonon Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps children affected by a parent or caregiver's cancer diagnosis to find comfort, heal and grow from their shared experiences.

Ovarian Cancer Support Group

Greater Charleston Ostomy Association Support Group

Dragon Boat Charleston

Dragon Boat Charleston, sometimes referred to as "the floating support group," is a nonprofit organization for cancer survivors. The club participates in several races per year. It has off-season programs like yoga and nutrition classes, as well as social and recreational gatherings.

Blood Cancer Support Group

This group, sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, addresses specific issues related to a blood cancer diagnosis. Attendees will be provided with an opportunity to discuss concerns, anxieties, and feelings related to illness, treatment and other issues. Lung Cancer Initiative Survivor Engagement Support Group

Lung Cancer Initiative is a nonprofit organization that specializes in connecting patients, survivors, and loved ones with support through their online survivor luncheon series, held the second Thursday of every month. Summerville YMCA Livestrong Program

The Summerville YMCA Livestrong program is a small group physical activity and wellbeing program for both cancer survivors and those going through treatment. The 12-week program meets twice a week for 90-minute sessions and offers a safe and supportive environment to enhance wellbeing through physical activity and socialization.
